October 2001 saw the band embarking on its longest ever journey, when over 30 band members visited Oberursel, near Frankfurt in
Germany. This was the first time that the Band had visited Oberursel (twinned with Rushmoor) and the visit was arranged by the
Twinning Committee.
We left Aldershot by coach in the early hours of Friday morning and returned at 4am on Monday morning, meaning we had a whirlwind
visit.

The weekend was enjoyed by both band members and their hosts, the Blasorchester der Feuerwehr Bommersheim (the voluntary fire brigade wind band for Bommersheim, a suburb of Oberursel).
We had a fantastic time, visiting an Octoberfest and explored Oberursel, the Bad Homburg castle and an open air folk museum. The hospitality we received from our host families was superb. |
The highlight of the visit was a joint concert with the Fire Brigade wind band. RCB were given a rapturous welcome by the locals. The Band's conductor, Len Tyler, especially for the event, wrote our first piece of music called Mit freundlichen Grussen. The second half of the concert was played by the Blasorchester. Then both bands were on stage for a boisterous Finale. Queen in Concert was especially well received, with the audience joining in with the lyrics.
