| On 12th March, the band’s Spring Concert at the Camberley Theatre added a lot of strings to the wind, brass and percussion! Not as you might think, violin strings, but the strings of harps. Luisa Ovett and the Surrey Harp Ensemble were our guests at this concert. The Harp Ensemble featured over 20 harpists, the youngest player being 5 years old! The band played music as diverse as March and Procession of Bacchus, Porgy and Bess and a new piece for the band, Thames Journey, which took the listener on an evocative journey on the Thames, visiting Oxford, Godstone, Hampton Court and finally arriving, to the chimes of Big Ben, in London. The harpists played two short programmes, one of which featured their junior members. The concert ended with a joint performance with both the band and the harp ensemble playing two pieces together. Finishing with the every-popular Minuet from L’Arlessienne Suite No 2. by Bizet. The solo part for flute in this performance was beautifully performed by Rose Tyler.
